What Is Cabane Tortin and Why Is It Unique?
Cabane Tortin is Europe’s highest private-use ski chalet, offering a luxury off-grid mountain retreat at 3,000 meters in Verbier, Switzerland — accessible only by ski, gondola, or snowmobile.
Redefining the classic Alpine escape, Cabane Tortin blends the intimacy and style of a luxury chalet with the spirit of a remote mountain “cabane.” It’s designed for private groups only, accommodating up to 6 adults and 4 young adults in complete seclusion — with a private chef, concierge, and certified mountain guides crafting every detail of your stay.
What New Experiences Are Offered for Winter 2025/26?
This season, Cabane Tortin introduces three new immersive experiences to elevate the high-Alpine winter journey:
1. Mobile Mountaintop Sauna
Guests ski to a secluded ridge with panoramic glacier views where a wood-fired sauna awaits. Hot/cold therapy, herbal teas, and post-sauna snacks are part of this rejuvenating ritual — set entirely above the tree line.
2. Sunset Glacier Sundowners
As the slopes empty, Cabane Tortin sets a private table on the glacier for sunset. Guests enjoy fondue, local charcuterie, and fine Swiss wines with the mountains glowing gold in the background. A truly cinematic experience.
3. Alpine Cheesemaker Tastings at the Cabane
Switzerland’s best cheesemakers visit the cabane to lead a private tasting of rare tomme, raclette, alpage cheeses, and preserves, paired with Swiss wines. It's a storytelling session, culinary experience, and cultural moment in one.
What Is the Food Like at Cabane Tortin?
The dining experience is central to every stay. All meals are prepared by a private chef using regional ingredients and Alpine traditions.
Expect:
Five-course dinners each evening
Classic dishes like fondue, artisan chocolates, and Swiss wines
Morning spreads with fresh breads and fruit
Seasonal produce sourced locally
Custom menus for dietary needs
Whether dining in the villa’s outdoor boma, beside the fire, or in the panoramic dining room, each meal is a sensory and visual highlight.
How Is Cabane Tortin Different from a Typical Chalet?
Unlike village-based chalets, Cabane Tortin is a true cabane—a tradition in Swiss mountaineering culture. That means:
Full off-grid operations (solar-powered, spring water, sustainable design)
Ski-in, ski-out access to the 4 Vallées
Remote, elevated location with no road access
Views of Mont Blanc and zero light pollution
Designed by award-winning architect Snorre Stinessen, the structure incorporates stone, timber, and glass to mirror the mountain surroundings while offering the elegance of a five-star retreat.
What Activities Are Included?
Every stay is fully curated. Guests enjoy a 1:4 guide-to-guest ratio with IFMGA-certified mountain guides providing:
Private ski instruction and backcountry guiding
Heli-skiing, snowshoeing, ski touring
Dog sledding and paragliding
Stargazing and evening skiing
Glacier hikes and scenic exploration
Every day’s plan is tailored — whether guests seek adrenaline, serenity, or gourmet indulgence.
